چکیده
In this work we describe a 3-year-old boy with hepatitis-associated aplastic anemia (HAAA) treated successfully with autologous cord blood transplantation combined with immunosuppressive therapy. There is little previous experience in the utility of autologous cord blood transplantation in the treatment of HAAA. Nowadays, for patients born after 1980, an HLA matched sibling donor is not usually available because of the family planning policy in our country. So more and more parents choose to preserve the umbilical cord blood for their children. We consider it a new effective choice for the treatment of HAAA, especially for the pediatric patients.

Umbilical-cord blood cell transplantation conditioned with a reduced intensity-regimen is a practical salvage therapy for severe aplastic anemia refractory to immunosuppressive therapy with antithymocyte globulin/ciclosporin.
Immunosuppressive therapy and stem cell transplantation from an HLA-identical donor are the major effective treatments for severe aplastic anemia. However, treatments still need to be developed for patients who do not have a HLA-identical donor and have not shown a clinical response to immunosuppressive therapy. We herein report on 2 patients in whom this problem could be overcome by transplant...
متن کاملHepatitis-associated aplastic anemia: successful outcome following immunosuppressive therapy.
Hepatitis-associated aplastic anemia is an uncommon variant seen in young, previously healthy individuals. The pancytopenia follows hepatitis by a few weeks and is usually severe and prolonged. Bone marrow transplantation remains the cornerstone of therapy. However, immunosuppressive therapy has been found to be effective. We report an 8-year-old girl who had non-A, B, C and E hepatitis-associa...
متن کاملSuccessful treatment of a patient with posthepatitic severe aplastic anemia with bolus methylprednisolone.
A 31-year-old female developed severe aplastic anemia following acute non-A non-B hepatitis. Because of the impossibility of bone marrow transplantation, bolus methylprednisolone therapy was done. Soon after the therapy, pancytopenia improved. She has since taken mepitiostane and no longer needs blood transfusions. Good response to the immunosuppressive therapy suggests that the pathogenesis of...
متن کاملThe successful treatment of severe aplastic anemia with autologous cord blood transplantation.
Cord blood transplantation has been used extensively in the allogeneic setting for acquired and genetic disorders of hematopoiesis. There is less experience in the utility of autologous cord blood transplantation, and there is great controversy about the role of autologous cord blood collection and storage. We report on the successful use of autologous cord blood transplantation for the treatme...
متن کاملSuccessful sustained engraftment after reduced-intensity umbilical cord blood transplantation for adult patients with severe aplastic anemia.
We retrospectively analyzed 12 consecutive adult severe aplastic anemia patients who received unrelated umbilical cord blood transplantation after a reduced-intensity conditioning regimen (RI-UCBT). The conditioning regimen consisted of 125 mg/m² fludarabine, 80 mg/m² melphalan, and 4 Gy of total body irradiation. The median infused total nucleated cell number and CD34(+) cell number were 2.50 ...
